Birth Affirmations: Words of Faith & Strength for Labor

Birth can bring so many emotions- excitement, anticipation, strength, and sometimes a little fear. Even when you’ve prepared, there may be moments during labor when you need a reminder that you are stronger than you feel.

For many moms, faith can be a beautiful source of comfort during birth.

Having a few words to repeat, pray over, or hear from your support team can help you stay grounded one breath, one contraction, and one moment at a time.

Here are some birth affirmations you can save, write down, or bring with you to the birth of your baby.

When You Feel Afraid

“God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”

- 2 Timothy 1:7

  • God is with me. I am not alone.

  • I can feel afraid and still be brave.

  • I do not have to know everything that will happen. I only need to take the next step.

  • I choose faith over fear.

  • I am held, supported, and deeply loved.

  • God is bigger than my fear.

When Labor Feels Intense

  • I can breathe through this moment.

  • I am stronger than I feel right now.

  • I can do this one contraction at a time.

  • My body and my baby are working together.

  • This wave will pass.

  • With every breath, I am getting closer to meeting my baby.

  • God will give me strength for this moment.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13

When You Need to Let Go of Control

Birth doesn't always unfold exactly the way we imagined. Sometimes the greatest act of faith is surrendering the things we cannot control.

  • I release what I cannot control and trust God with what I can.

  • I do not need a perfect birth for my birth to be beautiful.

  • I trust God even when my plans change.

  • God is with me in every outcome.

  • I can surrender my expectations without surrendering my strength.

  • I will take this birth one moment at a time.

When You Need Strength

  • My body was created for this moment.

  • I am capable. I am strong. I am supported.

  • I have more strength than I realize.

  • I will keep breathing.

  • I will keep going.

  • I don't have to be fearless to be strong.

  • God is my strength when I feel weak.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1

When You're Getting Close to Meeting Your Baby

  • I am almost there.

  • My baby is worth every wave.

  • My body knows what to do, and I can trust myself.

  • I am making space for new life.

  • Every breath brings me closer to my baby.

  • This moment is hard, but it is temporary.

  • Soon I will be holding the little miracle I have been waiting for.

A Prayer for Birth

Lord, give me strength for each moment of this birth. When I am afraid, remind me that You are near. When I feel weak, remind me that I do not have to carry this moment alone. Give me peace when things feel uncertain, courage when things feel difficult, and grace to trust You with every step. Help me welcome my baby with strength, love, and an open heart. Amen.

Mama, Remember This

Your birth does not have to go exactly according to plan for it to be beautiful.

Whether your labor unfolds the way you imagined or takes an unexpected turn, you are still strong, you are still capable, and you are still supported.

You don't have to conquer your entire labor at once. Take it one breath at a time. One contraction at a time. One moment at a time.

And when you need a reminder, come back to these words:

I am not alone.
I am strong.
I am capable.
God is with me.
I can do this one moment at a time.

Take these affirmations with you into your birth space. Write them down or speak them over yourself. And above all, remember that God is with you in every moment. However your birth story unfolds, you are worthy of love, care, and support.

“For with God nothing shall be impossible.” -Luke 1:37

You’ve got this, mama.
